If you don't have effects pedals; it's not a problem because the BOSS KATANA 100 amp has modulations, delays, and reverbs; more than enough to have fun.

With the possibility of adding a pedalboard, and the presence potentiometer makes it preferable to its little brother the Katana 50, and thanks to Woodbrass for the speed, back home.

This is a truly extraordinary amp for its price: the crunch and distortion sounds are really nice and have an "organic" side, they sound good even when pushed to the max and remain clean in all circumstances (without adding effects like overdrive or similar, of course). By playing with the complementary EQ (accessible only via a computer), you can make the clean sounds nice, even if it must be admitted that this is not the amp's strong point. The built-in effects are more than decent and, via the software, offer unexpected possibilities from my side. Finally, even if you don't get the feeling provided by tubes, and even if the effects are not worthy of boutique pedals, this is an amp that, as far as I'm concerned, is more than enough to have fun and sound good in concert. The amp therefore fully meets my expectations and the 5 stars are given considering the price. Finally, the footswitch and the use of the computer are essential to enjoy the capabilities of this amp.

Ok not bad at all FOR THE PRICE. Unusable without the GA-FC pedal (95 €!!!). Very good clear sound, folk modeling OK, Crunch sound not bad at all. After that it gets a bit worse but well it remains very decent FOR THE PRICE (I repeat myself!). Overall the settings made with the BOSS TONE CENTRAL support bring an undeniable plus but you have to take the time. Good for home, for rehearsal but for the stage there is much better. To conclude it has the qualities of its defects (cliché as a phrase..) Precise, versatile, efficient......but totally devoid of sound personality. But well......given the price.....

Amp bought at Woodbrass during the 2018 sales ... I didn't hesitate for a second. I already have a 50W all-tube Laney, a Blackstar HT5 and a Yam THR10 ... the Laney is too loud, the Blackstar needs warming up before use (we don't always have time) and has limited power, and the THR is perfect but also limited to "bedroom" use. Anyway, I was looking for an amp, reliable, simple to use, able to work at low volume but delivering power if needed. The Clean/Crunch/Lead/Brown system (like on the THR) is simple, (you play with gain + a bit of reverb) ... given the unanimous reviews, the Katana seemed to meet this need. So, is it the case? ------------------------------------ First of all, 20/20 to Woodbrass, an efficient phone contact (Kévin), a great price, and delivery in 36 hours (I am in PACA) ... what else? The amp arrives with the mention Version 2 ... great the latest upgrade has been done ... except that the sounds of the "effects" do not correspond to those indicated on the panel ... I do the test indicated on the Boss site, (power on with "tap" button pressed and indeed ... the lighting of the diodes does not correspond (no diode when set to 100W). Download the upgrade on the Boss site, update the firmware following the instructions scrupulously ... and it works perfectly ... everything matches ... phew! (no.1) I install Windows Driver (Win7) and ... failure (Driver signature problem) ... fiddled one evening, and finally it works: the solution ... Windows must absolutely be up to date with all its security updates) ... phew! (no.2) Installation of Tone Studio ... and nothing ... fiddled again and solution: You must first install Adobe Air v28.0 for it to work (this is not indicated on the Boss site ...) ... phew! (no.3) Anyway ... three software ... three hassles ... (= 1/4 star less) ------------------------- I plug in, and ... no tuner (like on the THR) ... too bad it's not complicated (= 1/4 star less). For the sounds ... well it's not as easy as the pros say ... unlike tubes that sound immediately, it takes a bit of searching. In the end, you get beautiful sounds by playing on the EQ, gain volume and master, and on the guitar knobs. Don't hesitate to push a little for it to sound (on this subject the 0.5w attenuator is a blessing, even if it sounds better at 50 or 100w). I understand however that some may criticize ... if you don't work a minimum, and put everything to the max (including on the guitar side) it can sound a bit "synthetic". On this subject the 4*2=8 presets will not be too many (by the way the default sounds are not great). I play styles ranging from Blues to Rock, with mainly three guitars. The amp renders very well the personality of each of my instruments: > The Strat ("plus" model), is precise with however the slightly velvety side of the Lace Sensor pickups) > My semi hollow with Semour Duncan pickup (Seth Lover) is nice, warm and dynamic. > My acoustic (Yamaha A3R) sounds absolutely superb especially with the Neumann U67 emulation) ... on the acoustic position. I haven't had time yet to "get lost" in Tone Studio and fiddle with specific effect chains ... but clearly with a little work the possibilities are endless and of quality. I tested two pedals a MXR Superbadass distortion, and a Roland SpaceEcho RE20, that the amp "takes" perfectly. -------------------------------- Anyway ... in conclusion after 2 weeks of intensive use: > The defects (or constraints) ... - Setup (software, initial sound), not as easy as with a small tube or with the THR. - No tuner > The qualities ... - Personality of the guitars extremely well respected - The musician's playing is also very well reproduced - Impressive sound palette, WITH A LITTLE WORK, you get Blues/Crunch sounds with a real breakpoint like on tubes. On the distortion side, easy to purr like Texas Blues or punchy Rock (not tested metal ... it's not really my thing) - Remarkable acoustic position (a real plus!!) Rating: Such quality for less than €300 ... it makes you dream ... if only I had that in my youth ... progress is beautiful. An amp that far exceeds the needs and musical qualities of 95% of amateur musicians. So, of course, I keep it, and I will sell my Laney (and probably also the Blackstar). It will probably be my last amp ... but with its possibilities, there is enough to work and have fun for months ... years. In absolute terms, with the small defects above: 4.5 Stars ... but given the price, how to put anything other than 5 stars!!!

Excellent modern amp with 5 basic analog sounds derived from Wazza technology and 55 digital effects from the brand's best pedals. Basic sounds each with their own identities. No legendary amp modeling here. But how the amp sounds! Organic sounds, a very simple amp to use, lots of possibilities thanks to the multitude of built-in Boss effects. A very good amp for those wanting to move away from the eternal modeled sounds often a bit synthetic in saturation. A magnificent clean, saturations sounding overall much better than competing modeled amps. Boss with the Katana 100 goes straight to the point, simple to use but with a breathtaking sound quality for the price.
